What are the Approximate Costs of the IB Program?

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a nonprofit organization. However, there are costs associated with an IB program.

SYVUHS’s annual budget is approximately $10 million. IB hard costs are approximately 1% of this annual budget.

There are potential additional costs that may need to be considered in assessing the true cost of the IB Program. These soft costs consist of teacher salaries. Most IB programs do not include teacher salaries when calculating the marginal cost of their IB programs. Teaching costs exist irrespective of an IB Program. These same students would be enrolled in higher level academic programs.
Who Can Enroll in I.B.?
- All academically motivated high school junior and seniors
- Freshmen and Sophomores may enroll in the pre-IB Program classes
IB is for a student willing to work hard at his or her studies. A student having the following characteristics is a good candidate for the Program:
- Ability to cope with several demanding classes simultaneously;
- A willingness to develop personal study habits, including self discipline, self-motivation and time management;
- A capacity to think critically and creatively;
- Some fluency in second language or willingness to become fluent; and
- An international outlook and genuine concern for others.
